Tom White joined Scarborough Athletic on a one-month youth loan from Gateshead in January 2018.

The 20-year-old midfielder came to the club for game time after finding opportunities limited at the International Stadium under Steve Watson this season.

White featured several times in pre-season for Gateshead, scoring in the 3-2 victory over Motherwell back in August, but went out on loan at Northern League Division One side West Auckland in September.

Tom also spent time on loan at Spennymoor last season.

The midfielder came on for his debut as an early substitute in the 3-1 win over Droylsden on 6 January 2018.

Player Focus

Name: Tom White

Age:  20

Position: Central midfielder

Former Clubs: Carlisle United (Youth), Gateshead

Location: Newcastle

Most memorable moment: Making my professional debut for Gateshead in the National League away at Dover in April 2017. After a really long journey down, I got the call and came off the bench with 12 minutes to go. Despite us losing 2-0 it was a great moment.

Best goal: Playing for Carlisle youth team against Blackburn Rovers. I hit a half-volley right into the top corner. It was a great strike!

Favourite club: Newcastle United, they’re the first result I look for. I’m actually a season ticket holder at St James’ Park and go whenever I can.

Favourite food: I love an Indian takeaway, usually a chicken madras. I tried vindaloo once but it was far too hot!

Favourite drink: Lime and Lemonade

Most famous player you've played against: I played against Jonás Gutiérrez for Carlisle Reserves against Newcastle Reserves when he was coming back from injury. I was on the right wing against him at left-back so it was a tough afternoon. But it was a dream come true for me as a massive Toon fan!

Pre-match routine: Always have a bowl of pasta with chicken and pesto a few hours before kick-off. I like to get out on the pitch early as I hate sitting down and waiting around in the changing room.

Why Boro? I’d heard about the history of old club and the big fanbase Scarborough has at this level. Also I was at the opening game against Sheffield United back in July to see what the club is all about. Also Scarborough is pretty local to me in Newcastle, so it made a lot of sense. Even after I’d come along in July and decided to stay at Gateshead, I’ve kept an eye on the results with a view to joining at some stage this season.

Hopes for the spell with us: Contribute towards the club’s goal of promotion. If I can help the side win 3 or 4 extra points during my time here to help us get promoted that would be fantastic.

Message for the fans: Thank you for the welcome you’ve given me so far, I already feel part of the club. Keep up your magnificent support home and away.
