2018 Christmas Toy Appeal
The club will again join together with the Salvation Army to collect toys for local children who are in need at Christmas. The toy appeal was originally launched over six years ago by Nigel Wood from The Salvation Army and Nigel continues to be the driving force behind this year’s appeal. We are also assisted this year by Rotarians and Scarborough Athletic season ticket holders Tony Esposito and Mike Turner (pictured below at a recent home game with Boro's Community Officer, Steve Machen).
Last year, the generosity of the local community donated over 3,000 toys that were distributed to children in our area, which included 12 sacks of presents collected at the Flamingo Land Stadium. Nigel is hoping (and praying) that the appeal can go beyond that figure this time around and we would like to play our part in helping achieve that.
It was apparent from last year’s magnificent total that overwhelmingly the toys donated were for young children, so we would ask that this year as well as donating for young children, please consider teenagers in need when you contributing to this appeal.
The appeal will draw to a close with a Celebration Service at The Salvation Army Citadel on Alma Parade in Scarborough on 9th December 2018 at 6:00pm, please come along if you can to share in this celebration.
Please bring an unwrapped Christmas Toy for a boy or girl to any of the upcoming home fixtures:
- Saturday 24th November v Gainsborough Trinity
- Saturday 8th December v Hyde United
- The Boro Hub, 7 Market Way, Scarborough
Contact Steve Machen on 07483843107 for further details or if you need toys collecting.
Let’s try and beat last year’s BRILLIANT effort where the community generously donated over 12 sacks of toys. The presents will be distributed to Local Children whom are in need this Christmas.« Back to news
