Gooda looking forward to Harrogate test
Scarborough Athletic step up their preparations for the new season on Tuesday evening as they travel to National League club Harrogate Town.
Having gained promotion to the top tier of non-league through the play-offs last season, Harrogate will provide a tough test for Steve Kittrick's side and will give the manager a good idea as to where the players are at as we reach the halfway stage of our preseason programme.
No-one knows the opposition better than Boro defender Bailey Gooda, who joined us from Town on a permanent basis this summer. Speaking about his connection with the club he said, "I know most of the lads there so I'm excited about going back. I feel I have a point to prove".
Harrogate gained a reputation last season in the National League North for playing attacking football, scoring 100 goals in the league and having a far superior goal difference to champions Salford City. This is something Gooda is well aware of, "With the quality of football they are capable of at home I think it could be our hardest game of the season, not just preseason. But it's one we'll enjoy and one that will benefit us all as we get ready for the new season".
Boro have played well in all of their preseason games so far and were unlucky to lose 3-2 on Saturday to FC United of Manchester. Gooda is pleased with how things have started and has been impressed with the new players brought in, "Some of the training sessions have been intense but the new lads have gelled really quickly. On another day we could have won against FC United, so things are going well."
The game at Harrogate Town kicks off at 7.45pm, slightly later than was originally advertised. Boro's following game is at home to Leeds United U23's on Saturday at the Flamingo Land Stadium, kick off is at 2.30pm.
