Boro U19s Kick Off Preseason
SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC U19s 3 - 5 OSBALDWICK
Scarborough Athletic Under 19s made their Flamingo Land Stadium bow on Monday night, in a preseason friendly against York Football League Premier Division side Osbaldwick. The young side eventually went down 5-3, but there were plenty of positives for them to take from the game, including an impressive attendance of 102.
Managed by former Boro duo, Ryan Blott and Denny Ingram, the game was the first time the players had played together following recent trials.
Despite Boro having the better of the opening stages, it was Osbaldwick who struck first. However, just after the half hour mark Boro were level, the pacy George Walmsley racing clear and calmly finishing between the keeper's legs. Just as it looked as though the teams were heading in level, Osbaldwick scored on the stroke of half-time to go in 2-1 up.
In the opening minutes of the second half Boro's Robbie Scarborough scored from a free kick, before a dominant spell by the visitors saw them take a 5-2 lead. In the closing stages Scarborough got his second of the game with a close range header.
Following the game, Blott was quick to give some perspective to the result, "It was a good workout for us. We had 24 lads there who we wanted to look at, so it was a little difficult in terms of game time for them. They are not a bad team from the York Premier, which is mens football, so it has helped give us an idea of what some of our lads are like and what we need to work on."
Despite the defeat, Blott was pleased with what he saw in the performance, "We played some nice stuff at times. I just think that cutting edge of knowing when to play the ball and when not to was missing, but that will come as the lads haven't played together before. I'm confident on that showing that we have a group who, once they start playing together and start clicking, will be a problem for opposing teams".
Preparations will now be stepped up for the squad as the managers look to bring the current squad of 24 down to around 18. That will start with regular training sessions from next week and then their second friendly a week later.
Fixtures for the Under 19s will be posted on our website and across social media. All home games will be played at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Monday nights.« Back to news
