From the Boardroom: Ossett Albion 28/04/2018
Read the final programme column of the season from Chairman Trevor Bull for the home game against Ossett Albion on 28 April.
Good afternoon everyone and a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Ossett Albion FC to the Flamingo Land Stadium for this afternoon's Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One North fixture. As it is your club's last match, I know it will be an emotional day for you, but we hope you enjoy your visit.
To mark the occasion of Albion's final fixture we will be presenting them with a couple of mementos on the pitch prior to kick-off. Please give them a massive round of applause when asked to do so, to show that we are all part of the football family.
Today marks the end of an amazing first season "back home" for our club, it seems a long time ago that we hosted Sheffield United in our first home fixture in the town for 10 years. Since then we have experienced that fantastic FA Cup run that saw us get to within touching distance of the first round proper, the North Riding Senior Cup exploits that see us playing at The Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough in a couple of weeks and of course all those league games that have culminated in promotion and make today so exciting.
Steve along with his backroom staff and players have done a wonderful job to achieve what they have this year on the pitch. It must also be said that as a fans owned and run club a tremendous amount of work has to be done off the field to enable the heroics on the field to take place. I must pay tribute to the small army of volunteers that make our club tick on a day to day basis and give you your "match day experience" often at the expense of theirs. They all do it because they love their club. If you get the opportunity today, please let them know how much they're appreciated. Another group worthy of our thanks is the local business community who have embraced us over the last year and their sponsorship has enabled us to grow and prosper, so look at who our sponsors are and if you get the opportunity, make use of their services. You, our supporters, who have turned out in magnificent numbers this season can take credit for the quality of players you have seen on the pitch. I'm sure your sick of hearing me say it, but we always said that the higher the crowds, the better team we would have. You have certainly played your part in our promotion season not only by your attendance, but also with your vocal support from the terraces. Thank you, to every single one of you.
At the final whistle today, please allow the players to leave the pitch safely, after which we will open the perimeter fence gates to allow everyone to congregate in front of the main stand.
We will then get the players to come onto the balcony at the front of the stand so you can show your appreciation for their efforts this season. After which it will be all into the clubhouse for a celebratory drink or two, please come and join us if you are able. I'm sure Steve won't mind you buying the lads a beer to thank them for their efforts!
We know what we need to do now to achieve a second place finish and automatic promotion. The simple fact is that a draw today will get us there. So for our final fixture this season, let's get the Flamingo Land Stadium rocking and cheer our lads to victory.
"Up the Boro"
