Following the departure of Chris Bolder to take the reins at North Ferriby United, Boro boss Steve Kittrick has acted quickly to bring in Hume as his new assistant.

Hume began playing professionally at Doncaster Rovers, going on to bully strikers at the centre of defence throughout a distinguished career.

His playing career included a long stint playing in the Conference with Barrow plus time at Alfreton Town, Stalybridge Celtic, Buxton and Harrogate Town.

Hume moved off the field and into the dugout when he served as assistant manager at Bradford Park Avenue for four and a half years, helping Avenue win promotion to the Conference North via the 2009/10 Northern Premier League play-offs.

In 2015, the 39-year-old began his managerial career with Matlock Town in January 2015, staying with the Gladiators for 18 months. In May 2017 Hume was appointed as first team manager at Sheffield FC, spending 5 months with the Evo-Stik South side before his departure in September.

Boro boss Steve Kittrick was delighted to bring in Hume. He said: "I've known Mark a long time and he has a vast amount of experience to bring to the club. He's been part of teams like Barrow and Alfreton at National League level and recently managed Sheffield FC in the Evo-Stik South. I've tried to sign Mark a few times as a player and I think he'll be a major asset for us moving forward."

Hume was delighted to get a deal sorted and join Scarborough Athletic.

He said: "It's a great opportunity to join a big club like Scarborough Athletic and help Steve as his assistant to get the club back where it should be."

"I've nearly worked with Steve on a few occasions and when Chris left the club earlier this week it's finally happened. He is a good friend of mine and we trust each other which is what you want from an assistant. I've either played against or seen the majority of the squad in action before, so I know what I'm getting myself into!"

Hume added: "It's an exciting project at Scarborough with the new ground and the players Steve that has brought in. As his assistant I'll be a sounding board to share ideas and suggest a few tweaks here and there."

"I'd rather be progressing with a forward thinking club that has ambitions and Scarborough have just that."
