Match Preview: Coulson aims to continue positive start against Colne
By Joe Usher
Scarborough Athletic striker Michael Coulson is aiming for the "positive start" to the league campaign to continue against Colne at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Saturday.
Boro have made a strong start to the season in the Evo-Stik North and sit in 4th place with 23 points from their opening 10 league fixtures. With three games in hand on Glossop in 3rd place, where Boro travel on Tuesday night, and four games in hand on current top side Bamber Bridge, the next few weeks mark a key period for Steve Kittrick's side.
The Seadogs will be looking for a reaction to last week's 2-2 draw away at Kendal in difficult conditions, and with the squad starting to take shape with the departures of Matt Dempsey, Leon Osborne and Craig Nelthorpe in the last few weeks, places are now up for grabs.
Opponents Colne have suffered a slow start to the season, particularly away from home. The Reds have won only once on the road in the league this season (a 4-0 win in their last game at high-flying Ramsbottom United). Steven Cunningham's men currently sit in 18th place in what is a tightly congested bottom half on 12 points from their 12 games played.
Coulson said: "It has been a strong start and I just want to focus on keeping fit and helping the team as much as I can."
"The success we've had in the various cup campaigns, most notably the FA Cup, has given us a platform for the rest of the season and the fans have responded by coming along in big numbers to support us. This run of games is massive for us and we need the fans to get behind us" added Coulson, who has struck 16 goals so far this season.
Midfielder Luke Dean is available for selection after missing the Kendal game last weekend through suspension. Otherwise there are no injury worries going into the game.
