We were poor in the first half but I thought the second half performance was a million times better. We had 6 attempts on goal and they had 1. We looked much better after half-time and it showed good character and resilience to keep going against tough opposition.
Luke Dean and Ross Daly were tremendous in the middle of midfield today, when we pass it and be confident then we create chances and put teams under pressure. We know that we're probably a couple of players short and we’ve got to go and find them.
It was disappointing to let in four goals in the first half. We're started on the back foot agains and not picking up our men is getting a bit of a habit for us and we’ve got to cut those mistakes out.
We were well beat at half-time, but we dealt with it a lot better in the second half. It's the FA Cup next week and we’re still doing well in the league so there is still lots of positive for us.
South Shields are as good as anybody we’ll play this season. They’ve got a massive budget at this level and players who should be playing in the National League and above really. Their squad has been together for a while as well which helps them gel as a side. We made it look a bit more like an even game in the second half and we need to take that into next Saturday.
