Turnbull ready for season finale
Scarborough Athletic defender Matty Turnbull was pleased to come away with all three points from the 5-0 win over Burscough.
Turnbull, who joined the club back in November 2016 from Pickering Town, felt that Boro were good value for the win.
He said: “The main thing was to do the job and get the win. Obviously they were struggling and only came here with eleven men and no subs but the main thing for us was to stay focussed and get the three points that we needed.
“It was a good performance and a big crowd, so it was great for us.”
“It was getting a bit frustrating early on but once we broke the deadlock it was all one way traffic and we played some nice stuff. When a side gets behind the ball and sets out to defend, it can be difficult but we managed to break them down in the end.”
Turnbull believes that the play-offs are still an acheivable aim if Steve Kittrick's side can keep up their winning run through to the end of the season.
“As a team we seem to be hitting good form just at the right time. If we can get into the play-offs in top form then anything can happen. We just need to keep going and keep performing how we have been doing."
The recent additions of Dominic Roma and goalkeeper Joe Green has strengthened the Boro defence in the last few weeks, and Turnbull is enjoying the improved performances at the back.
“I’ve never had so many clean sheets as I’ve had over the last month! We look solid and organised and Joe (Green) in goal and Dom (Roma) have been really strong back there for us and it’s nice to be a part of. Clean sheets are always important for defenders so I can’t complain with another one against Burscough!”« Back to news
