Junior Round-Up: Sunday 5 March

Hindle double puts Wizards under a spell

Scarborough Athletic U15's entertained Mill Lane Wizards in their HBSFL encounter and came out 3-1 winners.

In a tight first half Kane Randerson Wray had the first chance of note which the keeper did well to smother.

After a slick interchange with Nathan Parker, Zam Deans was played through 1 on 1 but his attempted curler into the corner was well saved by the keeper.

Boro were not having things all their own way and although a back four of Lewis McGrath, Jake Standing, Jake Baldwin and Finlay Marsh were dealing well with most threats, the Mill Lane striker should have scored midway through the half, but with the goal at his mercy blazed narrowly wide.

After one swift Mill Lane counter attack Cameron Anderson in the Boro goal made an excellent block to keep the scores level.

0-0 at the end of the first half, the game opened up in the second half Harry Coldbeck thwarting an early Mill Lane attack with a last ditch tackle.

But for all the intricate football being played it was a long ball from Anderson that caught the Mill Lane defence napping, with Jaydan Hindle getting on the end of it running through a static defence to cleverly lob the ball over the stranded keeper for 1-0.

Within 3 minutes Mill Lane were level when a deflected strike from outside the box looped over Anderson 1-1

But for the second time in as may weeks Boro rolled up their sleeves after a set back. Captain Brad Smith terminating every Mill Lane move in the middle of the park.

Dan Simpson created the next Boro chance putting a great ball into the box which Tom Wright was inches away from, Wright then headed a McGrath corner narrowly wide.

The goal did come with 8 minutes remaining when a Finlay  Marsh free kick eventually found its way to Zam Deans he outpaced the defender and slotted the ball past the despairing dive of the keeper to give Boro the lead again at 2-1.

As time was running out Jaydan Hindle beat the offside trap and knocked the ball past the advancing keeper into an empty net for 3-1 and a very satisfying 3 league points.
